  Faces - of the Museum

You are probably wondering why you are getting a second January - February Newsletter. Well first of all I have been traveling a lot for work, in fact I have missed the last two BOD meetings because I have been out of town. I just haven't been around a lot to know what is going on. Second of all I had to rush to get the voting information out in Jan/Feb # 1 and now I am trying to get the ballot out before the annual meeting in March.

If you can't make the meeting, send in your completed ballot. Hopefully you can make the meeting. It is a nice dinner, conversation, updates on the museum, and of coarse the voting.

We also generally have a program. Usually there is an interesting guest speaker. One year we had the Huron County Sheriffs Deputy come with his four legged companion - a Germany Shepherd (really from Germany). He talked about how the dog helped him in his work at catching and subduing the bad guys.

Another year a gentleman who was retired from the Coast Guard came and talked about his assignment on the Presidential Yacht during the Nixon administration. Both programs were excellent.

If you live within driving range please try and make it.

I have talked several times before that we have been working on a book about the museum. It is called The Mad River and NKP Society Museum - An Anthology. We have just completed the third and hopefully final edit. It is about 150 pages long and has over 250 pictures. It covers a brief history of Railroading in Bellevue, How the Museum Got Stared, and the Train Excursions that we use to have. It has a big section all the Roster (rolling stock, and displays). The final chapter is dedicated to the People and Events that have shaped our museum.

I am hoping that we will be printing / publishing the Anthology and it will be a source of revenue for the museum.

We need some input from the members - If the book I have described cost $40, how many of you would buy one? This is non-binding. We are trying to get a feel for how many we might want to get printed. Please e-mail or send a short note to the museum. You will love the book - Thanks for your input - Dale Owens
