The train looked good on Thursday but not good enough for NS. Friday morning an army of folks descended upon it with brooms, mops, buckets, hoses etc.
A complete and thorough cleaning commenced, inside and out and seemed to last all day. Now in addition to being the prettiest train, it is also the cleanest. All is ready at the railroad yard. And it is supper time, so Ruth and about 50 family and friends descended upon the Sports Hut for food, beverage, and old fashioned fun. By this time many had arrived from afar, to include Florida, Michigan, California, Indiana, Tennessee to name but a few. After a fine supper, many retired to the Fuehring place on 81 for a camp fire in the yard, conversation and more good old fashioned fun "zackly " like Bill would have us do. The calm before Saturday. June 21, 2008 dawned warm and sunny in Bellevue. The feeling of "this is going to be a good day" was in the air. At about 11:30 AM the first van load of 45 Fuehring family members, dignitaries, friends, and re dedication committee members left the museum for the NS Yards track B 1. They are all going for a train ride. At the yard NS Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Steve Tobias and his wife Connie, along with NS Vice President Chuck Wehrmeister, AVP John Irwin and several local NS officers, met family and friends on board. These people guaranteed a good ride for everyone. The train was scheduled to pull at 12:30 PM and did so. NS has a reputation for doing things on track, on time and |
