Faces - of Museums Oh What A Beautiful Summer - It is a great time of year for a bike ride to the museum. That is exactly what happened in June as the group GOBA, stopped on their way through Bellevue to see the museum. Julie Van Winkle, Director of GOBA, wrote the following: The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure, commonly called GOBA, is an annual bicycle event showcasing a different area of Ohio each year. It is sponsored by Bob Evans Farms, Inc., and is conducted by Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, a non-profit organization. |

For the 21st Annual GOBA, June 20-27, 2,700 bicyclists took part, traveling about 50 miles per day on country roads, visiting fairs, parks, museums, historical sites and many other tourist attractions while indulging in their favorite pastime. The tour began in Norwalk, and overnighted in Elmore, Bowling Green, Defiance, and Fostoria. Our 21st GOBA was made special by: In Norwalk, the opening parade and costume contest, and a downtown street party; an Elvis sighting in Bellevue; the 7 am museum opening at the Mad River and NKP Museum; the garage sales in Holgate; the "Hot Flashes" entertainers in Pemberville; the bike route delay to allow the Vice President’s motorcade to pass in Perrysburg; the always-dramatic bike races in Elmore; biking through the primeval Goll Woods; the great shade and lunch stop at the Hayes Presidential Center; touring the Northwest Ohio Agricultural Research Station; the canal boat ride in Grand Rapids; the white tablecloths at dinner at Defiance College; and the ever-popular Song Contest in Fostoria followed by Danielle and the Hanson Brothers, giving us a chance to dance the night away. |

GOBA-2009 riders came in all ages, incomes, and education: 59% of our riders were male; 74% were from Ohio; 41 states were represented as well as Japan, Canada (Manitoba & Ontario), and China; 11.3% of the riders were age 15 or under; 4.3% were age 70 or over; 39 have ridden all 21 tours. The tour owes its success to the kindnesses of many volunteers. We are grateful to everyone who worked behind the scenes or offered food to nourish us or cheered us along the way. It would not have been GOBA without you! For more information, see http://www.goba.com. |
