The Caboose Cable News Letter

the article's success though is if people take action and come out to participate.

Coming up in April is the annual clean up of the museum grounds and displays. Starting April 5th and every Saturday in April Starting at 9:00 AM we will all come out and start cleaning up. As a bribe I will bring the donuts the first Saturday. If  you have a rake, broom, spouse, kids, or a friend bring it (or them) along, the more hands the merrier.

There is always plenty to do. My personal favorite is cleaning display cases. Not that I particularly enjoy washing windows with really cold hands, but it gives me an opportunity to look at the displays. It takes a little bit of time to get all that winter dust off and I always see something I didn't see before.

One of my fondest memories of my short time with the museum is cleaning display cases and talking to Bill (Fuehring) about the museum and how he and the other founding fathers (and mothers) acquired all of the wonderful things and placed them in the museum. It is a wonder that we ever got all the display cases cleaned because everything in the museum has a story and Bill loved to tell it.

That my friends is why the museum exists--To tell (and record) the stories of the past and in particular the story of railroading in our area. I still wish that we could record more of those stories. Stories that will be lost in time as each of the older members pass on, if they don't get recorded.

At our annual meeting last Saturday night Jim Roberts  a long time member from Tiffin presented some slides of the early days of the museum. Many of the faces of the people who worked so hard to start the museum were there. The older members at the meeting made a game of remembering who some of them were. (con't. page 3)
