BOD Meeting Highlights

To those of you that are long term members, I challenge you to get a tape recorder, or get with someone who types fast and sit down and record the stories of the museum and other trains and history events before they get lost in time.

Perhaps we can get someone to write a book. Stories Of The Mad River & NKP Museum. We could sell it in the gift shop to make some money,

The story on page # 2 was written by Orville Welch. I hope that these stories are as interesting to you as they are to me. I hope more of you will send me your stories for the newsletter.

2/13 & 3/12/08 BOD Meeting Notes

  • We are providing free admission certificates for the grab bags for the April 5th Sandusky County Story Book Festival.

  • Free passes are also being donated to Sandusky County Jobs and Family Services to recognize 21 Foster Families.

  • John Fryar has volunteered to work on the Mad River & NKP web site. If you have not been to the site the address is http://www.madrivermuseum.org

  • The Boy Scouts are planning a Camporee at the museum in Aug or Sept. Please sign up to help with the various events. The boys earn merit badges by completing various 20 minute learning sessions, throughout each day. This is a couple day event. The Boy Scouts help us every spring at clean up time so we can give something back to them , but your assistance is needed.

  • The BOD voted and approved that admissions will be waived the day of the dedication of the Bronze Plaque made honoring Bill Fuehring.

  • There will be a Main Street Farmer's market the 2nd & 4th  Saturdays--May through Oct.. The cost for a spot is $10. The BOD agreed to buy a spot, to set up a table to promote the museum in May. We will see how that goes, and determine if we want to do it any more through the season.

Annual Meeting--March 15th

  • The annual meeting and pot luck supper was Saturday night. About 35 to 40 people attended the event and I think everyone had a good time. Thanks to everyone who prepared the decorations, and provided the door prizes.

  • After the dinner Earl Daniels reported that the grant  money was looking good and a vote was taken and approved to pay the 50% matching funds, that is required to get the grant. This money about $16,000 (total) will go toward multiple painting and building repair projects around the museum.

A Call For Articles -- Letters To The Editor--I will start a "Letter To The Editor" column if you want to send me your comments about the museum. Any questions, concerns or  suggestions will be appreciated. All I am asking is that you be positive, and if you have a "beef" that  you propose a solution. I won't  repeat any profanity or mention names, unless it is praise for someone who is trying hard to help. What gets printed is at the editor's discretion.

Send your letters to me via e-mail at
madriver@onebellevue.com, mail them to the museum, or drop them off in the box at the freight house - Attn: Dale Owens.
