Another Dinner in the Diner The Events Committee has been hard at work on plans for our next Dinner in the Diner, which will be held on May 15, 2010. Since this is Armed Forces Day we are celebrating with a typical American chicken dinner with all the trimmings and we hope to add a few surprises. We will have "one seating", serving dinner at 6 pm. As you know, space is limited to 48, so don't delay. Unfortunately, we are not handicap accessible. The cost is $35 per person, with approximately $ 20 (all profits) dedicated to the "Silver Dome" restoration project. For reservations mail a check made payable to Mad River & NKP RR Soc. and address it to the same, mark it "Dinner in the Diner", 233 York St., Bellevue, Ohio 44811. Or call Ruth at 419-483-6235 or the museum at 419-483-2222, leave a message and your call will be returned. This is the second year we've been raising funds to restore the "Silver Dome", the first dome car built & the prototype for all that followed. This car is our most historically significant piece of equipment and we hope to restore it back as close to original as possible. Without question, this is a huge project and it will take some time to acquire the funds to begin, but it is also one of the most worthwhile projects we have. Some of our other equipment is rare, unusual, or in some cases the last of it's type. The "Silver Dome" is and always has been "one of a kind". A Report on the Events Committee For those of you who may not be aware, the Events Committee was formed a little over a year ago with the express purpose of creating new and exciting ways to showcase our museum. Our main goals are to arrange activities that our members will enjoy and which will make the general public more aware of us, at the same time raising funds for a specific project. The first project we're undertaking is the restoration of the "Silver Dome". We're well aware that this is a large project and will take some time to accomplish. In 2009 we hosted and served two "Dinners in the Diner" which were very successful. This year we're having heating, air conditioning and other improvements made to the dining car, which will enable us to serve more of these popular dinners. The first one scheduled for 2010 will be May 15, others are tentatively scheduled for August 21 and December 11. We have some exciting plans in the works for these and hope you, our members will support these efforts and spread the word. We also are working on another project for mid-summer which, if all goes well, may be one of our largest endeavors since we ran the well-loved excursion trains. Stay tuned for more information on this as soon as it's available. September 30-October 2, 2010 we will be hosting the Nickel Plate Historical & Technical Society's annual convention. The Convention Committee, headed up by Chris Beamer is in charge of this, however, the Events Committee is assisting by preparing and serving breakfast in the diner on two of those days. |
