BOD Meeting Highlights

September 10th BOD Meeting Notes (con't).

  • Dennis Brandal - Asked if anyone had thought about the museum Calendar for 2009. Dennis was prepared with a 12 month grid / worksheet so collectively we went through and identified all of the known events for 2009. He will be working with Becky Polley to get it processed. There will be a colored cover and 12 black & white photos of current equipment. The calendar will have a dedication to Rollie Jordon who had worked on the calendar in years past.
  • Patti Gray - Secretary & Gift Shop Manager - Reported that June, July, and August admissions were up 357 visitors over 2007. Gift Shop sales numbers were also up.
  • Dave Robinson - Dave thanked the 31 helpers (13 nonmembers, and 18 members & spouses). Even though there were 40 fewer cars, the event still made some money.
  • The city grant check is due any day.
  • The only city grant project left is the replacement of the Monument station windows.
  • The downtown committee is planning a Christmas Bazaar in the Ruffing building. We could rent a table on behalf of the museum. Ultimately we decided we could not "man" it for the required number of hours.
  • Chris Beamer - Huron Library has made a request for someone to present a 45-60 minute program about trains to adults in November. Dennis said he would do it.
  • Kent Mclure from Monticello Railway Museum said we could have Car # 356 a NKP RPO if we want it. After some investigation we decided the cost of transport would be prohibitive.
  • Earl Daniels - Will not run for president again in 2009.

October 8th BOD Meeting Notes

Unfinished Business

  • The windows for the Monument building were installed.
  • The purchaser of the Brookes engine is asking if we know of a local crane / operator to lift the engine onto their truck. The one we have used in the past is going out of business. Further investigation is needed.
  • The owner of the "Donizetti" car says it is being sent to a museum in Las Vegas - Later investigation indicates this won't be possible. More to follow.

New Business

  • Patti Gray - Has submitted a proposal that Elder College at Firelands in Huron have a (tour) class here at the museum next spring.
  • Memorial to Rollie Jordon - The family has suggested / requested that we put lettering on the France Stone / Army GE Switcher (bicentennial side only). Rollie designed the paint scheme. Also suggested a small "movable" plaque by his caboose.
  • The BOD approved a proposal to advertise a 1/8th size ad, in the Lake Erie Shores and Island Guide.
  • Dave Robinson - Reported out on painting projects - refer to the list on page # 1.
  • Chris Beamer - Camporee had 99 scouts, with a total of 133 people.
  • Request from St. Pauls for "Hat Box" Auction
